this is it guys, the final show for our beloved screamo forefathers Caitlyn bailey will be this sunday at kalye art gallery. with wicked bands to support the bill coming from the asterisk collective and our dear friends. this marks an important period in our time where endless internet bickering had molded and converged people from all over the philippines to get into a collective unit and forged a like-minded aim to do shows, support bands and buddies on their endeavors and to have a good time rather than well, internet bickering. asterisk has been on (and well, off) for 2 years now, and it's an honor to have our 2 year anniversary be graced by the guys that made shit happen while the rest of us still dabbled into mumbling obscurities. there are still things that would have to be sorted out before we can make this event fully functional, but rest assured that everything is set and we're all excited to get this show rolling. see you guys and have a great august!

Soooo... Here's the loot that i got from last saturday's zine convention held at kalye art gallery (totally not in order):

2 real tight crew zines (issues 3 & 4) made by the joab, vocalist of deathwish unit (totally fierce band, las time i saw them play was at the last leg of the eskapo tour, and i was floored to the ground!) and archi mundial himself, we the infected metal zine, 2 tagay art zines and a personal zine of his, which my sister liked a lot, lipslide cd (awesome sauce layout!) courtesy of jep peligro, bystorm summer edition "live" cd-r, bunch of stickers, killeur calculateur's "valley of the dead" cd(which was long overdue, my apologies emman! hehe!), blacken the skies cd copy from THE archi mundial again (thanks bro!), a pin and loads of fun (not shown in the pic, but of course). here's to more fun events like this one! kudos NCI and everybody who attended! the only sad note on this was that it was the last of show of shirley steinberg, our beloved comrades in punk and in life. boo you guys!

up is the poster for the next show co-organized by non-compliant issue, flowergrave and * collective, a year-ender party for diypinoyhcpunk.com feat. the wonderful UK grindcore act krupskaya. it's a big honor and privilege for us to be able to join these guys in setting up a show, as we've only been a bunch of random kids that went to shows back then, and we somehow look up to these dudes that have been organizing hardcore/punk shows ever since we were babies (haha). hope we don't disappoint.

here is it guys, after a long break from blogging am back to present to you *collective's ALARME, a show we've set-up for our good friends caitlyn bailey from davao, and van gogh's ear from cebu (as i have heard that the spirals and bombo pluto ova will not be able to make it) for their luzon tour. this will also mark the first show that will include the youngins yuhis cruelty in the lineup among other great friends like T.E.T.E. and a hiphop band that has no name yet. (p.s. curse/gift being another one to watch out for) :D

i am very much excited for this show, and i hope to see you guys there. cheerios!

The Get-Up Kids - Red Letter Story

hello you. this is the first upload since i started to bring back my decaying blog to life... and so without further adieu here i present the get-up kids with the EP "Red Letter Story". not much to say about this one since i think you are quite acquainted already with this band and their story (or not, so refer here to wiki for an introduction). all i can say about this record is that it this is where they started using the piano as part of their band, and the transition from their earlier records to the later ones. i am not much a big big big fan of their sound but id like to think im pretty appreciative of them. got this cd from a good friend who was disposing some of his stuff (naunahan ako sa braid! yun lang) so i consider myself somehow lucky to get a hold of this one. shout-outs to him and his awesome post-rock band that's doing a cebu tour as of the moment. as to everyone, do try this piece of indie emo/pop punk and have fun with yer weekend. enjoy!

well well well. hello there 2009, how you doin'? been gone for a looong time since when. anyway. some infos for y'all. couple of shows coming up here in the country, and this year looks like a very positive time for bands touring in our shores. first up: second combat/motivation tour (feb '09)

i'm specifically stoked to see second combat, ever since i heard their song "this is the reason i stay" i got goosebumps all over me. haha. dead pits also gets a nod in my book, tho i have yet to hear a song that i could understand since all the songs i've heard are in indonesian, maybe i'll have to check out more songs from them. will have yet to check motivation's music but i'm all for posi- bands, so it's probably good! i'm already sure on the manila leg, killer line-up btw, but i'd have to check if i could also be available for the laguna leg since the scene there is great and cookin'. mad props for all the organizers making this thing happen. kudos! :D

Oh Man! Oh God show today!

from a one-man band existence to a 3-piece barrage of humongous (literally & figuratively) screaming fury and passion comes Oh Man! Oh God!. this i think is their second show ever since the band's existence, as they are a very young (but old, screamo-wise hahaha) band so do check them out. this will also be my first time seeing these guys play so i'm stoked to get a dose of their music live, not to mention the pretty impressive line-up that they have included themselves into.

this will be just a short post as i'm not really that much empowered in updating this blog, tho you'll still expect me to up a CD or so every now and then to continue promoting this kind of hardcore punk in the country. much stuff has had happened these past few months, both good and bad but there is not much reason to make us stop spreading the word. we do have some aces hidden up in our sleeves you know, but it's not for discussion now. ok, that's it, weird/vague info overload, haha, my bad. have a good day yo. thanks for reading.

THE APOPLEXY TWIST ORCHESTRA/ KINETIC CRASH COOPERATION split

FINALLY! after eons of waiting for the scanner in the shop to be free of its duties, to have mediafire fix its uploading issues, and my own lousiness taking over in my not posting in this blog-o-ma-zine for weeks, now present to you this thrashing piece of German screamo hardcore from the bands apoplexy twist orchestra and kinetic crash cooperation.

according to what i've gathered, this is the first split release of the apoplexy twist orchestra as the original press of this album was on vinyl 2001 by react with protest records (this copy of mine was released by life on the edge records) before having this CD-version that you are about to download. further infos about this will be posted sometime this week as i am about to leave for the show in calamba laguna with jayMO(hahaha) and i have yet to prepare my belongings for that trip(a bag and shirt will most surely do anyway hehehe). thanks for dropping by and enjoy your weekend. be sure to download this shit for your listening pleasure. more updates wil be upped soon.

guys, if you haven't heard of it yet, there is a war going on in the city of iligan in the province of lanao del norte. several bombing incidents have already happened in the city for the past two-three days and thousands have been evacuated from the outskirts to escape the crossfire between the military and the milf today. right this moment my HS classmate who studies in msu-iit in iligan is volunteering in the evacuation centers to aid in the evacuation of the innocent civilians and is the one informing me about the situation through text. here's what he texted my last night which bothered me the most.

"Grbe mka luha man pud ni diri sa evacuation center. daghan pa la ka kaun... kulang ra amu gdala" (grabe nakakaluha naman dito sa evacuation center. madami pang hindi nakakakain. kulang yung dinala namin)

"daghan mga evacuees dri. gdala cla sa iligan. wlay fud, sanina ug 2lugan."
(maraming evacuees dito. dinala dito sa iligan. walang pagkain, dalang damit at tulugan)

now what i would like to ask is for help, because as a person coming from the beautiful land of mindanao i have experienced peaceful co-existence with everyone unlike the things you might have imagined while watching your TV or reading the news, be it the Christians, Moslems and Natives alike and i cannot believe how selfish people on both sides would want to tear our place apart, using fear, terror and power for their own gain.

right now those evacuees have no food to eat and no blanket to sleep into. this may sound crazy and far-fetched but i would like to ask your help in providing these people, our own countrymen these basic needs for their survival.

i honestly have no sure plan of what to do, as this post is only driven by the concern and worry of a plain pinoy citizen that is me right now, but if ever i'll have a concrete idea of what to do, can i count on your help? evenmoreso your own initiatives in helping the evacuees, no matter how simple that maybe, would mean a great deal not just to me but to the people that you will be giving aid to. the most realistic thing i could think of yet is to coordinate with the red cross (as i was a member in our province's chapter back then) to raise aid for those evacuees.

i will regularly update this blog to make people know what is happening and what is being done by us to help. any form of suggestions and help will really really do. thank you for reading and have a nice day ahead.

but no, the sets of hardcore punk veterans tame the tikbalang, and betrayed(trivia! trivia!: they're alumni of my university! or so i've read, hehe) would be the ones to look out for IMO, since i am really excited to experience their music for the first time. i wonder if zines will be sold there, i've gone zine-hunting for the last two weeks already but has been very unsuccessful in finding one, hmm... (sana meron dun taena nakakapagod din kayang maghanap noh! lawlz.)

two houses show! (philippine screamo from lucena)

PTWDA: so how are things going over at two houses?

kev: All is good. Busy with making new songs and preparing for the show in pagbilao. We're also finished with recording our songs for the 4 way split with our friends from paranaque. The bands in the 4 way split will be Two houses, Ana pascal, Kate dollenmayer collective and canopies and grapes. Better watch out for the release. Its also free to download.

PTWDA: that's great news man. anyways based on your band name, can i say that you're big fans of funeral diner? also what are the influences of the band.

kev: Yeah we're big fans of Funeral Diner. We also listen to their new band called Who calls so loud.. I also heard news about them touring here in the philippines. We love to listen to different kinds of music. But the bands who influenced us the most is Jeromes dream, Saetia, CTTS, Indian summer, Orchid, Ampere and I wrote haikus about your cannibalism in your yearbook (damn. What a name).

PTWDA: hahaha. yea, that name is ace. so on with the interview. how would you like to describe your sound? and how different is two houses from your bands scream stupid and means to no end?

kev: We sound like a noisy hardcore punk band but a lot of octave chords are used and blast beats. We try to mix hardcore, punk, some grindcore and screamo into our music. Two houses is very different from Scream stupid and MTNE. Scream stupid is a bass-and-drums power violence band and MTNE is a dead hardcore punk band. i dunno really what to call MTNE's music. 2 of MTNE is in Two houses and our drummer and the drummer in MTNE plays in Call of fate. They kinda play a metalcore/punk/hardcore/metal/whatever music.

PTWDA: ahh, i see. you'll be having your first show this coming june 7 right, so how do you guys feel? and what will the audience be expecting in your set?

kev: i dunno. We feel ok i guess. hehe. Maybe they could expect some crazyness and stupidness when we play live and i hope the audience will like our music when we play live in pagbilao.

PTWDA: what is the show for? i heard it's some despedida of sorts.

kev: The purpose of the show is for the despedida party for jepoy (drummer of scream stupid and final resistance and a good friend of ours) and for the new bands to experience playing live.
kev: Oh yeah we're also playing with All affected in June 7th. They're a hardcore punk band from pagbilao and they are playing for 5 years already. So we're so excited.

PTWDA: that's good news man. hope all goes well over at the two houses' camp. ok here's a random question before we end this interview...
*if ever you guys get inside a battle royale-type of island, who do you think will survive? and how?

kev: Uhm i think no one. Because we're going to suicide together because we're all EMOOOOOO. haha, peace out.

Magrudergrind Philippine Tour

Yes folks, you saw it right. The Washington D.C.-based DIY grindcore band magrudergrind will be hitting our shores this coming june 23-27, starting here in Manila (i think the venue is in dayo bar). my friends and i will try to go to the first and last legs so that we'll get to see two shows from them. Hopefully we'll find a place to stay in the Malolos leg or else we will have to settle sleeping in their bus station hahahaha. no tix prices yet but i'm sure it will just cost around 80-150 php so be sure to check this out. this will surely be a blast!

Welcome. This is a trial post so there's not much stuff in here. the name's tadsz, i am a net and pseudo-music geek who just recently found my way into hardcore punk, and i made this blogspot as a webzine primarily for Asian and Oceania screamo scenes, most especially my country's (or the lack of) Philippine screamo because seriously, only a few people seem to care about this in the country and even fewer would actually want to do something for it. So in here i will post interviews, news, band updates, show skeds, random mumblings and of course downloads so you could get a taste and idea of what people here do (or not do, hahaha) and maybe, just maybe, we could generate noise that would be loud enough for people to hear what we say.

I really, really encourage interaction amongst readers so if you stumbled upon this page, feel free to post a comment and i'd be more than delighted to reply. the internet may have made the world small but had that sad effect of humans being used by the net rather than them using it. don't be one of them.
